Joy Austin-Lane’s Endorsement of Jamie Raskin for State Senate
Silver Spring Headquarters Ribbon Cutting
June 8, 2006
It is my privilege to endorse Jamie Raskin for Maryland State Senate. As a City Councilmember in Takoma Park, I represent the ward where Jamie lives and I bring greetings to you today from our fair city. I am glad to be in a position now that allows me to focus on the campaigns of other progressive candidates and I congratulate Jamie on his success thus far.
As we celebrate this auspicious occasion of opening the Raskin 2006 Silver Spring headquarters, I want to say what a courageous move Jamie made in running for office. Unlike those running for an open seat, he made the difficult decision to run against an incumbent. He has made a compelling case that he is the right person for the job. It will not be an easy path to victory but it will be a successful one. Jamie’s clear statement of action needed to further progressive values and his positive, forward looking, energetic approach are a winning combination.
I appreciate the progress made at the state level during Ida Ruben’s tenure in the Senate. She has served the public ably and has a track record of accomplishments. I firmly believe that her pioneering work is not diminished by Jamie Raskin’s candidacy and our enthusiasm for him. Jamie is motivated to change things and can lead our state onto greater progress. Our party needs more progressive leaders to communicate their vision for our state and our country. I appreciate Jamie Raskin’s ability and commitment to doing that.
Thank you, Jamie, for your willingness to join the fray. Our party needs you and I look forward to what we can accomplish together. Thanks to everyone here for your support of Jamie’s campaign. Please do as much as you can and then some to ensure victory. Onward and upward!
